Where to travel to escape winter

Hi Nextinationer,

If, like me, you are tired of cold and winter and are looking forward to summer and warm weather, why not take a trip to a warmer destination?

I give you some ideas of where to travel to escape winter. Let’s start!

The first destination would be Singapore. If you have been reading me for a while,  you will know that Singapore is one of my favourite destinations.

It is one of the most important city-states in Asia and one of the largest financial centers in the world as well as the second port in order of importance.

Not only is it beautiful but it also has a lot to offer. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I love it.

 Bali, Indonesia

Indonesia is a country that I need to explore more because it really has spectacular landscapes and places. Bali is, obviously, one of them. This island is very special. Not only it is a Hindu island in a country where almost everyone is Muslim, but also, its ancestral temples and traditions will leave you speechless.

Despite not being an island too large, it has incredible contrasts. You will get lost among rice paddies, you will discover temples in the middle of the jungle, which also have several monkeys roaming freely, you will taste delicious food and you will be amazed by how friendly Indonesians are.

I recommend you to go if you can, at least 7-8 days and spend a couple of days in the south of the island, two days in Ubud and another two days in Cangu or Seminyak.

In addition, the Komaneka beach area is becoming very trendy now. And of course, you can not miss any of the nearby islands such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Dua or one of the three islands called «Gili – these islands are part of Lombok and not Bali-.

I can honestly say that Ubud is one of my favourite areas of the island. Ubud synthesizes the mental image we all have of Southeast Asia: temples surrounded by vegetation, nestled in dreamy places.

Ubud has a special charm, perhaps because it is surrounded by jungle. The landscapes are incredible and I think the town is so beautiful, with spectacular hotels that seem taken from any travel magazine and surrounded by wonderful Balinese temples. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah! A floating breakfast in an infinity pool! Something you need to try while in Bali.

Another highly recommended Asian destination if you are looking for warmth, incredible hotels and spectacular beaches.

Although the truth is that Malaysia is known for the Petronas Towers, it is much more than that. However, it is true that these «towers» are much more impressive in real life. They are incredibly tall and spectacular. You can not miss going up.

I was amazed by the great ethnic variety in Malaysia and this translates into temples of all religions: incredible Chinese temples, colourful Hindu temples and impressive mosques.

In fact, the Batu Caves are actually a gigantic Hindu temple and the most important one outside of India. They have become in a few years in the second symbol of Kuala Lumpur.

I recommend you to spend 2-3 days in Kuala Lumpur and then go to one of the islands.

We decided to go to Langkawi. The truth is that Langkawi is not a well-known island of Asia as a tourist destination, although it begins to be, in fact, it is one of the most famous in Malaysia and is only an hour away from Kuala Lumpur by plane.

If you want to sleep in an amazing water villa, I recommend you to stay at Berjaya Resort.

Also, if you have more days, I recommend you to go to Georgetown. We could not go so it is still in my bucket list.

Dubai is another one of my favourite destinations. I think that nowhere else in the world, you find a mixture of old and modern like here. Dubai´s creek and its souks mix with futuristic Dubai, with Dubai Marina´s skyscrapers. Likewise, tradition mixes with luxury and glamour, same as Arabs mix foreigners.

It is one of those places that, if you can, you must go once in a lifetime. Or two. And now I explain better why.

The first time I visited Dubai was for New Years Eve 2012-13. We spent here 3 days in our way back to Shanghai, when we were living in China. The truth is that Dubai by that time, I didn’t like it as much as I thought. A city in the middle of the desert, half built – there were cranes and buildings under construction everywhere-. I saw the city a little «fake», I felt it without own identity.

Last year, in 2019, I had the opportunity to visit it again. And what was my surprise! I loved it! I don’t know why this second time I liked it so much compared to seven years ago. I guess that maybe, it is because Dubai has changed a lot in recent years and I did it too – and it will continue changing-.

I really do not know the reason, but this time all that mixture that has the city fascinated me completely and I fell in love.

I invite you to visit the Old Dubai that is part of UNESCO Heritage and get lost in the streets. Also, you should do an excursion in the desert or some activity full of adrenaline because Dubai, has everything, or almost everything.

Who has not dreamed of waking up in the Caribbean? Without a doubt, one of the options I recommend you is to do a Sea Cruise and where better than in the Caribbean?

In addition, now is the best time to go since high season has ended and the hurricane season does not begin until June – it usually goes from June to November-.

Without a doubt, I recommend you doing it with Norwegian Cruise line. Personally, I cannot compare with another company but speaking with the people on the Cruise, who had already made several cruises and with a few companies, they all told me that, by far, Norwegian is, if not the best, one of the best. They also said that choosing a not very good company can change your entire cruise experience.

My experience was very good in every way. I was not very confident that they were «may kind of thing» but the truth is that I loved it.

For a week, we sailed through the Caribbean: from Miami to Roatan Island in Honduras, Harvest Caye in Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico.

If you have any questions or questions, you can send me an email or write it in comments.
