The best Instagram spots in Singapore

Hi Nextinationers!

Singapore was always in the top positions of my «Bucket list,» so being able to finally visit and walk around this city has been something I had always dreamed of. If you are looking for the best Instagram spots, Singapore is undoubtedly one of the places you have to visit.

With a fascinating history, this tiny territory located at the southern tip of Malaysia moved from its colonial past controlled by the British to a fast pace modern democratic society during the XX century. Today, Singapore is one of the most important city-states in Asia, hosting the second-busiest container port in the world and becoming the third largest financial center in the world as well.

It is curious to point out the origin of the name, «Singapura,» formed by two words «Singa» meaning lion and «pura» meaning city, perhaps as a sign of the future that awaited this Asian lion.

Without a doubt, Singapore is one of the cities with the most amazing and colorful places to photograph. The whole town is full of color and vegetation. In addition to its latitude which guarantees a permanent summer all year long, Singapore has become a melting pot of the different cultures that cohabit this island, providing a beautiful showcase for everyone to enjoy.

If you still aren’t convinced to visit it, I will show you here which are the most photographed places in Singapore.

  • Little India

Any corner of «Little India» will delight any Instagrammer. The whole area is full of different colored buildings, following the tradition of their Hindu population.  You will also find here the Hindu temple of Sri Veeranakaliamman with its colorful sculptures and flowers.

You can’t miss the famous colored building called Tan Teng Niah, which belonged to a prominent Chinese merchant who had several businesses in the area of Derangon Road.

  • Sultan Mosque or Masjid Sultan

Muslim population is well represented in this place. This beautiful mosque stands out in this area thanks to its golden dome. Without a doubt, it is one of the Instagram spots in the area of Kampoon Glam and this Mosque presumes to have been declared a national monument in 1975.

Non-Muslims are welcomed to visit the building inside after preying hours.

Address: 3 Muscat St, Singapore 198833

  • Arab Quarter

You will also find several Instagram spots in the Arab quarter also known as Kampoon Glam. It is full of typical lamp shops and Arabian rugs that will make you transport to the country of A Thousand and One Nights. Also, there are many Arab restaurants here where you can try real Arab food and delicious pastries and teas.

Address: Kampoon Glam

  • Haji Lane

It’s one of those streets that you fall in love with. Also, it is one of the liveliest in the city and where most of the Singaporeans use to come after work or for the weekend brunch. The whole street and also the surrounding areas are full of graffiti and art as well as one of the most colorful ones.

The street also has amazing boutiques where you won’t be able to resist to buy something. There are also several cafes and restaurants. It is, therefore, another of the Instagram spots in Singapore.

  • Chijmes

I’m sure you’ll be struck by this Gothic-architecture building that once was a former Catholic convent. Nowadays it is used for events, especially weddings. At the surroundings of this building, there are many cute restaurants with terraces, like this Mexican restaurant that you can see in the photo from below. In addition to the old convent building, Chijmes is a place where you can find several Instagram spots in Singapore.

  • Mci. Police Station

It is one of the most photographed spots in Singapore thanks to its colorful façade, which is actually a police station. As a curious fact, it was the place where the first prison in Singapore was located, and during the Japanese occupation, it was used even for prisoners-of-war and as torture chambers.

Address: 3, River Valley Rd, Singapore 179024

  • Alkaff Bridge

One of the most interesting bridges in Singapore that I’m sure you’ll want to take a picture of. It is a pedestrian bridge near the Clark Quay area. It has the typical form of a tongkang, a light boat that was used years ago to transport goods along the rivers. It is called «Alkaff» in honor of an Arab family, the «Alkaff,» that were among the wealthiest families in Singapore at the beginning of the twentieth century.

This bridge was painted in 2004 with vibrant colors by the Philippine artist Pacita Abad, a few months before dying. They used 55 different colors and more than 900 liters of paint in which has been the first «Bridge of Art» of Singapore and in which is one of the Instagram spots in Singapore.

Address: 1 Havelock Rd, Singapore

  • Chinatown

It is one of those areas that are super photogenic being one of the perfect «Instagram spots».  Singapore’s Chinatown is beautiful, with colorful houses, food stalls, typical Chinese clothing and souvenirs, Chinese restaurants and the whole area is full of red lanterns.

  • Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

This temple in Chinatown is the clearest example of a Chinese temple in Singapore. Its architecture is extraordinary becoming one of those places perfect to photograph. This temple is based on the architectural style of the Tang dynasty. It is called like that because it is said to contain that relic of the historical Buddha. You can see it on the fourth floor.

  • Gardens by the Bay

What to say about Gardens by the Bay? This is the most photographed site in Singapore and one of the most photographed places in the World. And not without reason, indeed.

These «artificial trees,» that seem to be extracted from the Avatar movie are simply marvelous. They are about 25 and 50 meters high, but actually, they covered with leaves and real flowers. You must come here to see the lights and music show in the evenings that is something really extraordinary and unique.

I recommend you to come to Gardens by the Bay during the day to visit other attractions like the Greenhouse, which has the tallest artificial waterfall in the world and stay until night. The show called «Garden Rhapsody» is at 7.45 pm and 8.45 pm and it is free.

  • Helix Bridge

This multi-spiral bridge connects the Marina Bay Sands Hotel to the Esplanade. It is one of the most photographed bridges in Singapore thanks to its architecture. It has several observation platforms from where you can admire the fantastic skyline of the city.

At night the bridge illuminates with lights that highlight its helix shape, hence the name, although it is really inspired by the structure of human DNA. The bridge has two pairs of letters, C and G and A and T that represent the four bases of DNA: cytosine, guanine, adenine, and thymine.

  • Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Maybe the second most famous Instagram Spot in Singapore, after the Gardens by the Bay is this hotel: the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and its infinity pool.

It is one of the most famous hotels in the world. It is also considered one of the most exclusive casinos in the world because its owner, who has some other hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, wanted to do something special here. The most photographed place of this hotel is the infinity pool located at the Sky Park.  It is considered the longest high pool in the world and its views are just insane.

We stayed in this hotel to fully enjoy the facilities and access to the pool. However, if you are not a guest, you still can go up to the roof bar and enjoy a magnificent cocktail with the views.

My advice is that if you are going to spend several days in Singapore, save yourself a night to stay here and be able to enjoy its restaurants, its breathtaking views and its pool.

Luckily, our room had views to the «Gardens by the Bay» and one night we saw the «Raphsody Show» from our balcony, with a champagne glass in hand, and it was just amazing.

  • Science Museum

The Science Museum is part of the Marina Bay Sands complex along with the hotel, restaurants and shopping center. It is one of the museums most photographed by the works it has inside.  I have to say that I didn’t expect it to be that way and I was very pleasantly surprised.

If you have children, they will love to go, since many of the pieces they have are interactive and perfect for children to play and learn. Nevertheless, adults are also going to enjoy it also a lot.

One of the exhibits that I liked the most, was «Future World: Where Art Meets Science». This is a permanent exhibition so whenever you come to Singapore you will be able to see it. It’s like delving into a world of magic.

The installation known as «Crystal Universe» is a room with thousands of crystals hanging from the ceiling and flickering lights that are changing color simulating the space and the universe becoming another of the most famous Instagram spots in Singapore.

  • Orchard Library

I don’t know about you but I love looking for bookstores and nice libraries when I travel. I think they have a special charm, so imagine my happy face when I found this one in Singapore. It is beautiful thanks to the set of curved and straight lines that it has. You won’t be able to leave without photographing it. It is located inside a shopping center on the fourth floor. And who says that shopping can’t make you smarter? 🙂

Address: 277 Orchard Rd, #03-12/#04-11 Orchard Gateway, Singapore 238858

  • Emerald Hill Road

This street was a real surprise because I had no idea of its existence until I accidentally run across it in Singapore. I was really surprised because, in my opinion, it is probably the prettiest street in Singapore and of course one of the most «Instagrammable» thanks to their different pastel-colored houses.

  • The Concourse Building

If you are fans of Architecture like I am you will be impressed by this building. From the first time I saw it, thanks to Instagram, I knew I wanted to photograph it. This 41-story office building in Singapore stands out over the skyline of the city. Its architecture is impressive. It has an octagonal base since the number 8 in China means prosperity. It becomes one of the buildings that you can’t stop photographing if you are in Singapore. It is also a five-minute walk from Haji Lane so it is very accessible.

  • Koon Seng Road

Probably the most photographed street in Singapore. These typical colored houses are called «Peranakan houses» and date back to the 1920s and 30s. They are located in the district of Joo Chiat.

This colorful street is called Koon Seng in honor of one of the thirteen students of the Anglo-Chinese School of Singapore. Until the 70´s, this area was inhabited by Perakans, descendants of Chinese immigrants, hence this area has this unique Chinese architecture.

Address: 62 Koon Seng Road.

  • Universal Studios Singapore

We all know that Disney parks and Universal Studios become the perfect stage to get the best picture for Instagram. Therefore, spending a day at this park in Singapore may be the best plan to achieve this goal besides, of course, having so much fun.

  • Botanical Garden

Singapore is probably the greenest city in the world and if it is not yet, it will be soon. It is already known as the «Green City» because of the amount of vegetation, parks, plants, and flowers it has. In addition to the Gardens by the Bay, another place to visit to get our «Instagram photo» is the Botanical Garden.

It has two lakes, one is the Symphony lake, and the other is the Swan Lake. In Symphony Lake you can listen to free concerts offered by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra every Sunday.

  • Nanyang Primary School

This building is simply spectacular, both in architecture and visual level becoming one of the most photographed sites in Singapore. The project is an extension of the Nanyang Primary School and daycare center in Singapore. It is possibly the most colorful and original building in the city thanks to its rainbow color palette and curved shapes.

Address: 52 King’s Rd, Singapore 268097

  • Chinese Garden

Another of Singapore’s green lungs is this Chinese garden which together with the Japanese garden form the Jurong gardens. These gardens are about 30 minutes drive from Singapore But if you have plenty of time, I recommend you go. Their pagodas with spectacular.

Address: 1 Chinese Garden Rd, Singapore 619795

  • Rochor Centre

Rochor Centre is a group of buildings that stand out for their colorful facades. Definitely one of those perfect buildings like «Instagram Spot». Don’t you think?

Where to stay in Singapore?

As I have commented before, I think it is a good idea to book a night at the hotel Marina Bay Sands to fully enjoy the hotel without leaving the resort practically.

It is perfect to enjoy the shopping mall and try one of the restaurants that are in the Sky Park as well as having a cocktail up there enjoying the views. And how not, spend the day in your infinity pool.

But if you plan to spend more than 3 days in Singapore, I recommend that you stay at the Quincy Hotel the other two nights. I would definitely go back to this hotel the next time I return to Singapore. The location is pretty good, less than a 10-minute walk from Orchard Road, the shopping street par excellence.

Its comfort, location, the treatment of its staff and its incredible design and decoration make this hotel a perfect choice.

Have you ever been to any of these places? Of course, if you know of any other «Instagram Spot» in Singapore do not hesitate to tell me and so I can add it to the list.
