Paseo de las Estrellas /Hollywood Walk of Fame
No podía ser de otra manera. La primera o de las primeras cosas a visitar en Los Ángeles es el Paseo de las Estrellas. La mejor manera de empezar el día en LA es dirigirte al Paseo de la Fama donde yo pensaba que habría muchas estrellas sí, pero nunca imaginé que tantas, durante varias manzanas y a ambos lados de la calle se extendían cientos de estrellas dedicadas a personalidades no sólo del mundo del cine sino también a famosos del mundo de la radio, de la música etc.
It could not be otherwise. The first or among first things to visit in Los Angeles is the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The best way to start the day in LA is to go to the Hollywood Walk of Fame; I thought there would be many stars, but I never imagined that so many, for several blocks and on both sides of the street hundreds of stars dedicated to personalities not only of the world of the cinema but also to famous of the world of the radio, of the music, etc.
Tip: early birds get best pictures, so make sure you arrive before all the tour buses arriving with tourists. Capitol Records building is not far and it has an amazing graffiti that can be admired best when the parking lot is empty.

Grand Central Market
Es un gran mercado cerrado como pueden ser los que conocemos en España: el Mercado de San Miguel en Madrid o el de la Boquería en Barcelona. Nos sorprendió este en pleno Downtown de LA que abre hasta bien entradas las 10 de la noche (para estándares americanos es bastante). Allí encontraréis sobre todo unos de los mejores puestos de comida mexicana y es que sí, Los Angeles, en general toda California está llena de mexicanos así que comeréis la mejor comida fuera de México allí. Estaba espectacular, nos pusieron un plato a rebosar y dos cervezas y pagamos menos de 10 dólares. También tienen varios puestos de cervezas, comida china, comida filipina (sí, habéis leído bien), hamburguesas, comida italiana, etc… Ésta es la página web para más info: http://www.grandcentralmarket.com/
Tips: el Downtown de LA puede ser bastante sombrío al caer la noche. Lamentablemente hay mucha gente sin techo en las calles y algunos con serios problemas mentales. Aunque no es realmente peligroso, lo mejor es evitar cualquier situación incómoda. Uno de los puestos que recomiendo si vais a desayunar o a media mañana es el Eggslut. Los buns están buenísimos 🙂
It is a large indoor market as those we known in Spain: the San Miguel Market in Madrid or the Boqueria Market in Barcelona. We were surprised by this downtown LA market which opens until well past 10pm at night (by American standards is late). There you will find some of the best places of Mexican food in Los Angeles, and generally all of California is full of Mexicans so you will eat the best food outside of Mexico there. It was spectacular, they put a plate to overflow and two beers and we paid less than 10 dollars. They also have several stalls of beers, Chinese food, Filipino food (yes, you have read well), burgers, Italian food, etc …
Tips: Downtown LA can be quite gloomy at nightfall. Unfortunately there are many people homeless in the streets and some with serious mental problems. Although not really dangerous, it is best to avoid any uncomfortable situation. One of the posts I recommend if you are going to have breakfast or mid-morning is Eggslut. The Buns are great 🙂
TLC Chinese Theatre
Otro de los básicos en la visita a la Ciudad de las Estrellas es este teatro de arquitectura china donde ha tenido lugar la premiere de cientos de películas de Hollywood entre ellas la de «Star Wars» en 1977 así como 3 ceremonias de entrega de los Oscars. Una de las cosas características de este teatro son las placas de hormigón que se encuentran a la entrada con firmas, huellas de pies y de manos de personalidades del mundo del cine desde los años 20 hasta la actualidad.
Another of the ¨must¨ in the visit to the City of Stars is this theater of Chinese architecture where the premiere of hundreds of Hollywood films, including «Star Wars» in 1977 and as well as 3 ceremonies of Oscars, have taken place . Dolby Theater
Ha acogido en el pasado varias ceremonias de entrega de los Oscars, así como conciertos de Celine Dior entre muchos otros. Además del teatro hay un centro comercial al aire libre donde poder descansar en alguno de los cafés o hacer algunas de las primeras compras.
Tip: Si subes a segundo piso, a una especie de pasarela que hay verás el letrero de Hollywood a lo lejos. Al lado del Dolby Theater se encuentra el Kodak Theater, lugar conocido mundialmente por ser el Teatro donde se tiene lugar la ceremonia de los Oscars desde el 2002. El teatro es cedido a la Academia del Cine y de las Artes desde semanas antes al día de la Ceremonia.
It has hosted in the past several ceremonies of delivery of the Oscars, as well as concerts of Celine Dior among many others. Besides the Theater, there is also an open air Mall where you can rest a little bit in one of the cafés or maybe do some shopping 😉
Tip: If you got to the second floor, you will get a panoramic view of the Hollywood sign. Just near the Dolby Theater is located the Kodak Theater, World famous place for being the Theater where the Oscars ceremony takes place since 2002. The theater is ceded to the Academy of Cinema and Arts from weeks before the day of the Ceremony.
El Capitán Theater
Originalmente construido en 1926, este teatro fue renovado en 1991 por Pacific Theatres y The Walt Disney Company y ha sido declarado Monumento Histórico Cultural por la ciudad de Los Angeles. Ahora es el Teatro principal que Disney utiliza para exhibir sus películas animadas de Disney para niños. Se caracteriza porque sus películas comienzan con un espectáculo en vivo, con un coro de canto y baile de los personajes más conocidos de Disney. A menudo se emite también unos dibujos animados por un corto periodo de tiempo antes de exhibir la película principal.
Tip: Al lado del Teatro está el Hollywood Masonic Temple, un edificio que, hasta 1982, perteneció a los Masones y donde hoy puedes ver en vivo y en directo shows como el de Jimmy Kimmel. Construido en 1921 por el mismo arquitecto que construyó el Observatorio Griffith. Se rumorea que este edificio tenía un túnel secreto con el TLC Chinese Theater que permitía a los actores famosos evadir a la gente cuando hay premieres de películas. Hoy en día dicho túnel habría sido destruido al contruir una de las líneas de metro que van por ahí. Originally built in 1926, this theater was renovated in 1991 by Pacific Theaters and The Walt Disney Company and has been declared Cultural Historical Monument by the City of Los Angeles. It is now the main Theater that Disney uses to display its animated Disney movies for children. It is characterized because its films begin with a live spectacle, with a choir of singing and dancing of the most known personages of Disney. Often a cartoon is also broadcast for a short period of time before the main movie is displayed.
Tip: Near to the Theater there is the Hollywood Masonic Temple, a building that, until 1982, was part of the Masonery Family and where today you can enjoy the live show of Jimmy Kimmel. It was built in 1926 and renovated in 1921 by the same architect that built the Griffith Observatory. There is a rumor that this building had one secret tunnel to the TLC Theater that would allow Movie Stars to evade mobs at movie premieres. Hollywood Museum
Si te encanta el cine, éste es un museo que no te puedes perder. Contiene el mayor conjunto de objetos y pertenencias de las películas de Hollywood entre trajes, fotografías, guiones, posters etc.. El museo se encuentra en el edificio histórico de Max Factor donde el más importante maquillador de Hollywood creó los looks de la Era Dorada de Hollywood maquillando a actrices como Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Mae West ó Marilyn Monroe. Puedes ver las habitaciones donde tuvieron lugar estos maquillajes, una para las morenas, otra para las castañas, otra para las rubias y una última para las pelirrojas. Entre los trajes aparecen los que han llevado actores o cantantes de la talla de Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Beyoncé, George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt o Angelina Jolie entre muchos otros. Me gustó mucho y es más grande de lo que pensaba puesto que cuenta con 4 plantas.

If you love cinema, this is a museum you can not miss. It contains the largest set of objects and belongings of Hollywood films among costumes, photographs, scripts, posters etc. The museum is located in the historical building of Max Factor where the most important Hollywood makeup artist created the looks of the Golden Age of Hollywood makeup artists such as Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Mae West or Marilyn Monroe. You can see the rooms where these make-ups took place, one for the brunettes, another for the chestnuts, another for the blondes and one for the redheads. La Brea
Una cosa que llama la atención de Los Angeles es que si os fijáis con atención, podréis ver que hay balancines de petróleo en operación en todas partes, pero muchos están camuflados o son muy discretos. La legislación americana permite que cualquier persona pueda extraer el oro negro desde el el jardín de su casa. Pero una cosa aun mas interesante es La Brea Park, al lado del LACMA. Son una serie de pozos de alquitrán en un parque en el medio de Los Angeles. Mamuts, felinos, o mastodontes recorrían hace miles de años esta zona de Los Angeles que antes era un terreno salvaje y lleno de mamíferos exóticos que se extinguieron después con la Edad de Hielo. Cientos de estas especies extintas pudieron conservarse perfectamente al ser atrapados por estos pozos de alquitrán y se exhiben en el Museo que allí se encuentra.

Mercado Agricultores de LA

Tip: No os podéis perder los donuts de Bob´s, sencillamente deliciosos. Como recomendación os diré que los fines de semana cierra pronto, a las 8pm los sábados y a las 7pm los domingos pero es perfecto para reponer fuerzas antes de visitar The Groove (ver el siguiente punto)

The Grove
¿Por qué no subirse después de comer algo en el Mercado de Agricultores a este tranvía que te lleva a The Grove? un centro comercial al aire libre con varias tiendas, restaurantes y un teatro-cine. En verano además, los viernes hay actuaciones musicales. Me recordó a Las Rozas Village en Madrid o a La Roca en Barcelona sólo que más bonito. Los edificios tienen estilo Art Decó y me encantó su pequeña fuente con espectáculo de luz y sonido (como el de las fuentes del Hotel Bellagio en las Vegas sólo que en versión mucho más pequeña) así como el Restaurante de Ladurée que está justo al lado y la tienda de Cupcakes Sprinkles.
Why not hop on after eating something at the Farmers Market to this trolley that takes you to The Grove? an outdoor shopping mall with several shops, restaurants and a theater-cinema. In summer also, on Fridays there are musical performances. It reminds me a little bit to Las Rozas Village Mall in Madrid o La Roca Mall in Barcelona but this is more beautiful with all those Art Deco buildings. It has a small show in a fountain with lights & music like in the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas in a much smaller version. I loved also the Ladurée Restaurant close to this fountain and the Cupcake Shop called Sprinkles.
The Last Book Store
Esta enorme librería en pleno downtown de Los Angeles no deja indiferente a nadie. Podrás encontrar el libro que quieres en la tienda de libros nuevos y usados más grande de California. Os dejo la web aquí: http://lastbookstorela.com
Tip: Uno de los sitios más fotografiados es su túnel de libros en la segunda planta. Los libros tienen muy buen precio y suelen tener bastantes ofertas. Es una parada obligatoria en LA para todos los amantes de los libros.

- Tip: One of the most photographed places in LA is the book tunnel in the second floor. Also all the books have a very reasonable price and you can find lots of offers. It is a must visit place for book lovers.
